Southwest Florida Cheek Implants & Chin Implants (Augmentation)
In general, facial plastic surgery is about restoration but in some cases enhancement is required to optimize the result. The most common enhancement that we perform is chin augmentation followed by malar (cheek) augmentation.
The chin should project to the tangent line drawn from the upper to the lower lip. For woman projection to the line or just shy of it by 1-2 mm is considered normal. For men projection to the line or just past it by the same 1-2 mm is considered aesthetically pleasing.
The modern chin implant is not the short button of 20 years ago. Rather these flexible, soft, tapered silicon implants project the chin but then taper gently yielding a natural appearance. I prefer to place them via a submental incision – that is, an incision in the natural crease under the chin. Chin augmentation is not infrequently performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty (nose job). When performed by itself, chin augmentation is performed in the office under local anesthesia.
Augmentation of the cheeks can help give the youthful “olive” shape to the face. It can enhance the results of facelifts and can be placed during that surgery without additional incisions.
During your consultation we will discuss chin and/or cheek augmentation if it is appropriate to do so. Please do not hesitate to call and schedule a consultation.
