Southwest Florida Laser Resurfacing (Fractional CO2)
Since the 1980’s the best way to treat wrinkles, sun damage and thinning of the skin of the face has been the CO2 laser. Everyone loved the results however the recovery time was difficult and prolonged. Over the next 20 years a variety of lasers and treatments have come and gone all claiming to give CO2 laser like results but without the downtime. None of them really delivered on that claim until the recent advance in the CO2 laser itself. With Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing only a small percentage of the skin is disrupted – but the energy delivered causes a thickening and tightening of the skin of the face that is very effective in reducing wrinkles, sun damage and reversing the thinning of the dermal layer that occurs with aging. While typical CO2 laser resurfacing requires intravenous sedation, an operating room and 2 weeks of downtime out of the public eye, Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing can be done in the office under topical crème and requires only 3-5 days of downtime out of the public eye depending upon the amount of area and intensity of treatment. There is pinkness that is covered with makeup that lasts another 1-3 weeks.
One of my favorite aspects of this laser is that once healed there is no pigment change between where we used the laser and where we did not. With traditional CO2 laser treatment or with deep chemical peels there was often a noticeable interface and makeup might be required to blend this in. There is no “whiteness” to the skin after fractional CO2 laser.
The results are amazing. The skin looks healthier, smoother, and tighter. We love the results we are getting with the fractional CO2 laser and feel that it is close to completely replacing more traditional forms of CO2 laser resurfacing.
